Class Suspension for Iglesia ni Cristo Medical Mission

Most classes in the National Capital Region will be suspended on Monday, October 14, as heavy traffic is anticipated for Iglesia ni Cristo's medical and dental mission in Metro Manila.

Education Secretary Armin Luistro has suspended elementary and high school (public and private) classes in the following areas, as announced by Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Francis Tolentino:

Quezon City
Caloocan
Pasig
Pasay
Makati
Mandaluyong
Taguig
Paranaque
Pateros
San Juan
Muntinlupa
Valenzuela

 The city of Manila earlier announced suspension of classes in all levels, including college, for the Iglesia activities. Around 1.6 million participants are expected to join Iglesia's "Kabayan Ko, Kapatid Ko Lingap sa Mamamayan" project.

Meanwhile, classes are NOT suspended in the following cities:

Marikina
Las Pinas
Malabon
Navotas

The Success of Breaking Dawn

 

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Vampire romance "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" drew $30.25 million in box office blood at midnight screenings on Friday, eclipsing its predecessor and giving it a strong start to the weekend.

The film, which is the first part of the final segment in the series of films about a young woman and her bloodsucking lover, is expected to bring in upward of $140 million at U.S. and Canadian box offices over its opening weekend.

The series, which is based on the popular "Twilight" novels by Stephenie Meyer, is one of Hollywood's most lucrative franchises. "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" debuted in June 2010, and raked in $30.1 million in midnight showings. It went on to suck nearly $700 million from worldwide box offices.

The record for U.S. and Canadian ticket at midnight is held by the recent, final installment of the "Harry Potter" movies, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2." It debuted to $43.5 million at midnight and went on to claim another record: the best three-day weekend with $169.2 million in the United States and Canada.
But producer and distributor Summit Entertainment has cautioned box office watchers not to compare the two movies too closely due to several differentiating factors, including that the "Twilight" films are aimed mostly at females while "Harry Potter" targets broader audiences.

The "Twilight" movies made stars of Kristen Stewart, who plays the lovestruck Bella Swan, as well as Robert Pattinson as vampire Edward Cullen and Taylor Lautner as werewolf Jacob Black, both of whom vie for the affection of Swan.

Edward eventually wins Bella's heart and in "Breaking Dawn - Part 1," the pair are married. Their wedding and honeymoon are among the highlights of the new movie.

"Breaking Dawn - Part 1" also began its release in 54 markets outside North America on Friday, but early international ticket sales figures were not yet available.

The movie cost $110 million to make after production budget remakes. "Breaking Dawn - Part II" will hit theaters in 2012.

Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez’s first baby, Nathaniel James or Nate for short, is finally home.  The happy couple brought their bundle of joy  home last Friday, Nov. 18, or 10 days after he was born last Nov.8.

The songwriter and songbird are as hands-on as can be with their first-born.

“Baby Nate has no yaya. He has no nursery and just rooms in with us,” reveals Ogie.

What they have instead,  Ogie adds,  is a midwife who attends to Regine until she fully recovers from her Cesarean operation.

“Regine is breastfeeding the baby,” says Ogie, who has written the song “Aking Anak” for his first son.

This early in Baby Nate’s life, the couple has decided to share their joy over his birth to less-fortunate children.  Ogie and Regine turned over three new classrooms to Adiangao, Camarines Sur last Nov.11.  The building was funded from the proceeds of  Ogie and Regine’s highly successful Celebrity Ukay-Ukay last April.

International pop sensation Miley Cyrus will be bringing the "Party in the USA" to Manila come June. The star of Disney's "Hannah Montana" will visit the country for a one-night concert at the SM Mall of Asia grounds on June 17.

Music Management International, the producer of Justin Bieber's "My World Tour: Justin Bieber LIVE in Manila," confirmed Miley's Mall of Asia concert to Yahoo! OMG Philippines over the phone on Tuesday, March 29.

The buzz spread like wildfire after Ruffa Gutierrez tweeted that Miley Cyrus will be having a concert here. Recently, fans also started having an idea of an upcoming Miley Cyrus concert after various updates in Facebook and Twitter were posted, asking fans whether they would like to see Miley Cyrus to perform in Manila this year.

Miley released her third album "Can't Be Tamed" in 2010, a dance-pop album, which showcased her more mature side. Miley's "Gyspy Heart Tour" is to kick-off this April in Equador, in support of her "Can't Be Tamed" album.

Poor people banned in Ayala Malls

Are “poor people” really prohibited in a posh mall in Makati City? No, Ayala Land said that it's not true.

Earlier, a photo of a signage prohibiting “poor people” in Greenbelt mall circulated in social networking sites Thursday, drawing the ire of several Filipinos including TV personality Denise Laurel and singer Kyla. “This is disgusting,” Laurel said in her @D_Laurel Twitter account, as she retweeted a photo of the signage that contained this statement: “This is a private, controlled environment.

"Poor people and other disturbing realities strictly prohibited. Thank You!” The signage also bears what appeared to be a Greenbelt logo and “Ayala Land Corporation.” Kyla replied to Laurel’s tweet and said: “I saw that picture :( just plain bad. Yeah. I hope that's fake. Definitely a bad joke...”


Ayala Land denies posting 'fake sign' Several hours after the photo circulated, Ayala Land, which manages Ayala Malls including Greenbelt, issued a statement denying that the signage was from their office.

"This is regarding the alleged signage that has been posted today, 24 March 2011, at the Greenbelt Mall, a photo of which has been circulating online. This signage is not authorized and is not part of Greenbelt ’s official mall signage," Ayala Land, Inc. said.

“We would like to reassure everyone that Greenbelt is for the enjoyment of the public and the community it serves,” Ayala Land added. “The Ayala Malls Management does not tolerate any pranks. We shall be coordinating with the proper authorities for corresponding actions to be taken,” Ayala Malls added.


Possible motive Jorge Miguel Marco, head of Corporate Communications of Ayala Land Inc. told Yahoo! Southeast Asia there were a number of malicious posters around the Greenbelt area but they were "only there for a short time." Marco said security guards discovered the posters. "There were some posters. It was scattered. As far as we know it was put up early morning," Marco said in a phone interview.

"It was really a hoax," he added.

Marco said investigations are ongoing and they are also determining the motive behind the incident. He mentioned they already have "some leads."

When asked whether they were looking at competitors as culprits, Marco said: "Let's not speculate as to who the culprit might be. The investigation is ongoing and we hope to find out more about this."

Hayden Kho VS. Sharon Cuneta

Hayden Kho Jr. clarified that the alleged tweet he posted on his Twitter account was not about Sharon Cuneta and her Marie France billboard along EDSA.

Hayden tweeted on Wednesday, February 9: "Wow! i wasn't referring to the MF (Marie France) billboard. I was referring to a "L**D" that's supposed to be a LOURDES. Dahan dahan naman po."

"That was quite a wounding tirade from someone i respect. Ironic, really. Very ironic," he added.

Leah Salterio, Hayden's publicist, told Yahoo! Southeast Asia through a text message also on Wednesday: "Please follow Hayden's tweet. He wasn't referring to Sharon's Marie France billboard."

In a Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) report, Sharon reacted to Hayden's January 28 tweet: "There's a billboard ad in Edsa developed by advertisers who think consumers are stupid. Guess."

"Kanina ko lang narinig. Tweet daw niya (Hayden), e. Sa Twitter daw. Kung tooo yun, ang kapal ng mukha niya!, " Sharon said.

"Decent people are [the only] people I would like to listen to. Not those who do not know the meaning of decency. And who treat women like they're nothing! Excuse me!," she added in the PEP article. "You know, you want to start a war with me? You? Fix all your problems first!"

Willing Willie dancers suspended!

Willie Revillame announced the suspension of the show's dance group WW Girls citing infighting between members that even reached social networking site Twitter.

"Mga matitigas ang ulo. Suspendido po sila hindi alam, indefinite kung babalik pa sila o hindi. Awayan ng awayan, awayan ng awayan. Pati sa twitter ho nag-aawayan. Yan ang disiplinang sinasabi ko. According to Revillame, fighting within his show is strictly prohibited. "No one is indispensable," he said.

Anna Feliciano, the group's dance choreographer along with the show's staff and crew served as substitutes for the WW Girls while the dance group undergoes indefinite suspension. Despite the girls absence the show went on, lively as usual.

There's nothing wrong with your computer. If you can't share your favorite YouTube video or GMANews.TV article, the problem stems from Facebook itself.

As of noon in the Philippines, a growing number of people around the world are reporting that the familiar Share button — which lets you re-post an item from the Web into your own Facebook profile for friends to see — has disappeared from various websites, most notably YouTube.

"Some users are in panic as they are assuming that the websites have removed the share button. One such website is YouTube which had the share button an hour back and is not present any more," said online news portal BuzzingUp, which has likewise been affected by the bug.

The glitch has prompted netizens around the world to air their complaints via Twitter.

Also, based on Google Realtime Search analytics, the key term "share button" became a trending topic across the Web between 6am and 12pm.

As of posting time, Facebook administrators have yet to comment on the scope and nature of the problem, prompting speculation from online observers.

It's Christine Reyes versus Sarah Geronima this time.

Kapamilya actress Cristine Reyes is fuming mad and she's not afraid to tell her more than 240,000 followers what she feels.

On December 12, Cristine posted more than a dozen angry messages on her Twitter account. While she did not name who her anger was directed at, Cristine referred to the person as “drama princess” and “Idol.”

Entertainment bloggers and Twitter users have since identified Sarah Geronimo as the subject of Cristine's Twitter wrath.

Cristine started her tweets with: “I AM SO PISSED RIGHT NOW!”

Her next tweets explained the cause of her anger.

“Hindi ko gusto yun banat ng drama princess porket wala ako sa ASAP XV. Akala mo ba e hindi makakarating sakin? Punong puno na ako sayo,” she tweeted.

“Pagmamagaling magsayaw habulin ng mga babaeng sexy... FYI mali ka ng dialogue e baka habulin mo. Ikaw ang naghabol! Binreak ka nga e!”

“Nakikipaghiwalay sayo ikaw ang habol ng habol! Alam mo yan! Alam mo ang TOTOO!!! Sa microphone mo pa sinabi para marinig lahat ng artista!”

Cristine did not directly say who the “drama princess” is, but her tweets are peppered with clues pertaining to her identity.

“Uulitin ko ang ha bago mo ka magbitaw ng salita siguraduhin mong Totoo! Kumanta ka na Lang!” she tweeted.

“Wag mo ko paparinggan at sasabihan ng walang katotohanan wag mo ko simulan kasi marami ako alam na kaartehan mo! IDOL pa naman kita!” Cristine said in another tweet. “1dol” is the title of Sarah's most recent soap opera with ABS-CBN.

When Twitter user Annadasig replied that Sarah was merely kidding around with John Pratts earlier, Cristine answered: “MAGBIRO?!? PERO WALA NG PASARING!!!! alam naman ng lahat Kung ano yung biro na yun Di kami tanga. At kapag magpaparinig man o magbibiro make sure it’s true! kasi alam mo naman na siya ang halos mamatay na sa kakahahol. Diba?”

MANILA, Philippines - Young actress Shaina Magdayao refused to comment on an issue involving her real life sweetheart, actor John Lloyd Cruz, and actress-beauty queen Ruffa Gutierrez.

It was reported that Cruz is still in constant communication with Gutierrez even after he admitted his relationship with Magdayao.

In an interview during a thanksgiving party for the success of Magdayao's first lead role project, "Alyna," the actress said she's leaving everything to Cruz.

She said that this time, the actor needs to speak and defend himself.

She said she feels bad for Cruz who has always been perceived as a womanizer (Click here for related article).

"Well, this certain issue, let's leave it to John Lloyd. Siguro it's time para depensahan niya naman ang sarili niya. Kawawa naman siya kasi siya ang lumalabas na nagtu-two-time or siya ang lumalandi pa kahit may girlfriend na," Magdayao said.

The young actress said she already spoke to Cruz about the newest controversy. She said that she's aware of everything and that her boyfriend is now ready to answer the issue.

"Alam ko naman lahat ang nangyayari at nakapag-usap naman kami. He's ready to say his piece," she said.

Magdayao said that she won't say anything because she's aware that the report about Cruz still calling Gutierrez did not come from the latter herself.

"Ang masasabi ko lang is huwag na lang kaming gawan ng isyu. I mean, kahit ano ang sabihin ng tao, hangga't hindi si Ms. Ruffa ang nagsasabi noon na nagtatawagan pa sila or may communication pa din, then I won't react. Kasi hindi naman sa kanya nanggaling 'yon. Hindi siya ang nagsabi noon on air, so hindi po, I won't take it against her," she said.

Magdayao's statement was her reaction to an episode of "Paparazzi" wherein Gutierrez's co-host Mo Twister revealed that Cruz is still calling Gutierrez. Twister's source is cosmetic doctor Vicki Belo.

"Kasama ko si Vicki Belo and Hayden Kho kagabi (September 25) and sinabi niya sa akin na noong nag-vacation kayo sa X place, hindi ko na sasabihin 'yong place, palagi sa iyong tumatawag si John Lloyd. 'Yon ang kwento. Nandoon ang phone, umiilaw, nakalagay 'John Lloyd.' So sabi ni Vicki, 'O bakit tumatawag si John Lloyd sa iyo?' In fairness gumanyan si Ruffa, 'Hindi ko na sinasagot 'yan,'" Twister said.

On the show, Gutierrez, who was obviously surprised by Twister's story, didn't answer the latter's straight question if Cruz is still calling her.

"It's not my birthday, Mo. I will answer you next year," Gutierrez said.

Magdayao appealed to entertainment writers to stop using Gutierrez's name to make an issue.

"Ang pinapakiusap ko lang sa mga manunulat, sana huwag na po nating idamay si Ms Ruffa dito. I'm sure gusto niya, tulad namin ni John Lloyd, ng tahimik na buhay.

"Huwag na natin siyang idamay. Tapusin na natin," she said.

The "Alyna" star stressed that she has a high respect for Gutierrez who's one of the closest friends of her older sister Vina Morales.

"I have so much respect for her kasi kaibigan siya ng ate ko. Simula pagkabata yata hanggang pagtanda ay magkaibigan sila, magkumare. Ngayong may anak na sila ay magkaibigan pa din sila. So, huwag na nating idamay. Pabayaan na nating tumahimik ang tao," Magdayao said.

MANILA, Philippines - Actress-model Isabel Oli finds quite ridiculous recent news that she was seen dating cager James Yap.

"Not true," says she in an exclusive interview with Bulletin Entertainment.

Oli admits knowing Yap, having been introduced to the latter years ago in a birthday party of a common friend.

"Pero yun lang yun. Puro hi, hello lang kami. We're never really that close," she insists.

That said, Oli didn't deny that she saw Yap recently at a mall.

"But I was with a friend, a non-showbiz guy that I've been dating. And he [Yap] was also with some other friends. Nagbatian lang kami," she relates.

Shocked as she was with what she deems an "absurd" piece of news, Oli, who is soon to be seen on the big screen in "Rosario," feels embarrassed for Yap.

"It's embarrassing for me, and for my friend, but more so for James," she says.

"Kawawa naman siya. I'm sure marami nang pinoproblema ang tao pagkatapos there'd be rumors like this, so, naaawa talaga ako sa kanya."

Yap is the ex-husband of actress, TV host Kris Aquino. They have a son, Bimby.

Prior to Oli, Yap whose marriage with Aquino is in the process of being annulled, was also rumored to have been seen "dating" TV host Grace Lee, who denied the accusations.

Who is Mark Dizon?

He's a suspect to the murder of three (3) foreigners and their wives. He's been in to hiding for the past few weeks. Today, Mark Dizon has finally been arrested... Thanks to Facebook!

Philippine police on Wednesday said they used Facebook to help track down a computer technician accused of murdering nine people, three of them foreigners.

Police captured the suspect, Mark Dizon, 28, in San Fernando City north of Manila after his father, fearful that his son would be killed in a gunbattle, worked with authorities and arranged to meet him.

Witnesses initially identified Dizon as the murderer through his Facebook account, where police found out that a daughter of one of the victims was an ex-girlfriend.

"He had an account on Facebook and two witnesses positively identified him," Senior Superintendent Danilo Bautista, police chief of Angeles city where the murders took place, told AFP.

"We have an airtight case against him. I believe it is ironclad."

He said Dizon apparently closed his Facebook account after sensing police were on his heels, but two witnesses had already positively identified him using his profile picture.

The suspect tried to pull out a gun when police pounced on him Tuesday, but he was quickly subdued, Bautista said.

Dizon is suspected of killing American Albert Mitchell, 70, Briton James Porter, 51, and Canadian Geoffrey Bennun, 60, their three Filipina partners and three Filipino domestic helpers in separate attacks in Angeles this month.

All the men were retirees and lived in separate gated communities that are popular with foreigners in Angeles, which lies outside a former US airbase, Bautista said.

Angeles mayor Edgardo Pamintuan paraded a handcuffed Dizon before press photographers Wednesday and said murder charges had been filed against him.

The suspect stayed silent and tried to hide behind his police escort as he was led away, an AFP photographer said.

"Charges have already been filed against him. We have solid evidence to pin him down, including the items that he had stolen that were recovered," Pamintuan told AFP.

"We are happy that this was solved with the help of the citizenry and technology because he was identified quickly.

"I believe he knew what he was doing, because it was well-planned. It was good that we caught him because he would have struck again."

The good-looking Dizon allegedly befriended the victims first to gain their trust, so they allowed him to go into their homes freely on the pretense of fixing their computers, the police chief, Bautista said.
